Hi all,

I am writing in this forum to get some info on how to register my Italian Vespa here in Germany.

(Apologies, but my German is still very bad...hope this is ok with you)

I moved to Munich last December and plan to bring my Vespa from Napoli (where I am originally from) to enjoy the Bavarian Summer (...yeah I fully believe summer will come sooner or later!)
My Vespa is  a PX125E Primavera Electron, is not very very old (from 1986) but it used to be considered a historic scooter, so I use to pay a very cheap insurance.
I've been told that also here in Germany the law allows that, but I'm still looking for the right information. Could you give me some info?
- should I register my Vespa with a German plate and get an insurance here?
- how to get the "historic" status and pay a very cheap premium?
- would it be possible to keep my Italian plate, been the Vespa historic?
Those are my first questions...
I'd really appreciate your help or any tips for my new Vespa adventure!
Danke!

ist it a px125E arcobaleno??

px is not a primavera!!

historic registration for this scooter will not be a noticable advantage

regular registration for px ist cheap anyway...and no road tax

historic registration may be a little cheaper to insure....but then you pay 39.- road tax....same price any bike.... weather its a 125 or a 1200 Harley...and it must be 30 years old

have you bought the scooter new in 86??  if not who owned it before you??

munich ist one of the toughfest places to reregister a bike from abroad

in most other towns its a lot easier...

It doesn`t make sense to get a historic plate for a MC in germany, because the tax is higher! A 125 is tax free and for the historic vehicle ~46 EUR. Maybe for insurance reasons, but that differs too much from company to company. Insurance should around 100 EUR for normal registrated bikes and maybe 70 on h-plate. I say around! it really differs alot.

Anyway you can keep your plate, but your are not allowed to display it on the bike anymore. Your documents will be stamped void.

Hi,

the option to register your scooter as a historic vehicle is not very interesting moneywise. From what I remember the price of the historic insurance is 169,- Euro per year. For your scooter you will pay under 100 to start with, and this will go down over the years to about 50 after a while. So you won't be saving any money.

If you spend most of your time in Germany you will have to register you scooter in Germany. From what I know it's difficult to reregister it back in Italy once you've done that, so maybe you should consider leaving your scooter in Naples and buying a second one here. Chances are your scooter is worth more in Italy than you'd have to pay for a similar one in Germany. I'm not sure about that though and I may well be wrong. Still I'd consider it as an option.
