--------------
I wanted to say hello from the United States and introduce myself.

I am Rory. I lived in Germany with the USAF and while over there, I bought two GS3 Augsburgs.

I am now retired and working for Siemens in the USA, and finally have time to restore my two Vespa's.

I have a '59 GS3 Type 162 that is complete, that I sent off to a shop in Los Angeles called Bar Italia Classics to be restored to factory condition.

I have another '60 GS3 that is in pieces that I am going to restore myself.

Hopefully, you don't mind if I ask a few questions over the next few months.

I have already purchased a few things for my Vespa from your marketplace.

I have always liked scooters, but I think the German build Vespa's are the most beautiful. Italian design with German engineering.

Sorry, if the translation is bad... I used Google.

and another i do have, to me it is interesting that in those days they seem to had have the same colour feeling - mine red one is also from the south of Germany( Freiburg) , not far where yours was sold in the beginning..

Wow... looks so much alike. Mine was painted blue. Then Red over. The blue looks hand painted. I have no idea what original color is. Going to paint original silver.

It was common in Germany (and elsewhere incl. the US, too) that dealers put their badges on vehicles they sold. At first it was badges that were fixed with rivets, later stickers became more popular. Robert Litti probably was a Vespa dealership back then.

Awesome... mine is fixed with rivets. I have one on the front and the back. I will definitely keep it with the restoration.

Yes, you definitely should keep the dealer badge after restoration, those are becoming collectors items themselves, see this topic where different dealer badges and stickers are listed: http://www.germanscooterforum.de/topic/112965-h%C3%A4ndlerschildchen/?hl=%20h%C3%A4ndleraufkleber

Are you sure you want to go down the factory specs road again? I quite liked your idea of applying the rare Alabaster-White option, as seen on two of the scooters in the image below. Also, you'll notice that there is only one of the GS's in the picture that appears to have its original silver all over, so a custom choice of color would not necessarily infringe any implied claim of reproduced authenticity.

Here's the Frankfurt Scene of the day, meeting outside then current hip palais, "Storyville":

Thank you for the picture. That is exactly what I needed.  Is there a thread that has all these old pictures posted? I love them. The dudes look sharp in their suits. Very cool.

In my opion,Silver is the better choice, but at least,it's your own decision!
Here are pictures of my GS in first paint!

I am lucky... I can actually have it both ways.

I've decided to have my '59 Type 162 restored in the original silver. I have a gas tank that has original paint. The shop specializes in original restorations and they have painters that will hand tint the paint. This one will have 100% original parts, and will probably be mostly for shows and special occasions.

For my '60 Type 212, that I am restoring personally, I will do in the Alabaster White. This scooter will be mostly original, just a little bit modernized. I will have Vespatronic on the motor, some upgraded shocks, etc.... (I will keep all original parts in case I ever want to change back). This will be the one that I ride around regularly.

I want to thank everyone for their input. It helps to hear experienced people. When I try to talk Augsburg Vespa's with people in the United States, they don't quite understand.

Will do.

It will be a long time. I work for Siemens Energy traveling around North America and South America for September - May. I am home for very few days.

Bar Italia Classics already told me that it will be at least 18 months for restoration.

Actually, the people you see are mostly just queuing up for the event. This is just the parking lot outside, the owners are most likely inside already, to experience some live-action by early soul jazz legends such as Quincy Jones, Dave Brubeck or Kai Winding. As the English say: "Jammy Bastards!".

I'll look through my hard disc for contemporary pictures, I know there's quite a few there. I'll be posting them for you in the respective topic, "Alte Aufnahmen, Chromzubehör..."

Good choice, btw, hope to hear more from you here!
