all i know about a 5-speed-gearbox for the px is that last summer we met some austrian guys at the lake of como in italy and 1 of them used 1.

and the guy with that gearbox was kneeling (and cursing) near and under his px like 24/7 - because of the gearbox ... enough information?

uhm...not enough. Maybe he was only a case... I think 5 speed in a vespa engine can help very much the performance in acceleration and speed surely. With 4 speed , in the fourth gear the engine has got hard work to get the maximum revs, .... but I don't know if it is reliable..

missing reliability, that's what i was talking about ...

the austrian guy said that after like every hour of riding, there were at least 2 hours of repairing the gearbox :-D

As far as i know is this gearbox very weak.

The gearwheels are to small and they won't last for a long time especially in combination with tuned engines.

I think so.

The gearwheels are too small and break all the time. A friend of mine had it in the early 80s and cursed it all the time.

Make your engine run the 4th gear powerfull! It´s the best solution.

no, it's just crap, so it's a gearbox for the trash can only. Beacause gears are thinner it can't handle anymore than stock power. And gear transitions are horribly wide. It's normal 1-4 and then a fifth gear added with the same large jump as 3 to 4. crap :-D

and hardening stell, especialy teeths on rings is a really special job!!!

finition on teeths is another funny job!!

ask somehone who work in a automobile gear box factory!!
