Hi Mark Hanson here from the glourious UK.

Just wanted to formally say hi to the German guys especially all the smallframe racers out there.

I'm one of only four Vespa racers in the UK now and Tony O'Brian has all but quit. I race a group 4 (group 3 Standards - 135 crankcase ported) 90 Racer and this year I will be racing a fully tuned Group 5 (139 Reedvalve) Harry Barlow (Pro Porting) special as members at the BSSO AGM defeated Dave Delanney and my proposal to allow disc brakes on Vespa smallframe Standards, so we're both going down the special route with our SS90's.

One thing I am trying to get are either SS90 repro handlebars or 50 Special bars to put on my 90 Racer as the Primmy type bars are being fitted with a master cylinder and shortened for the SS so I need some other bars. I have normal 90/ 100 bars on at present but I've been told now that I'm running a "big wheeled" PK selector that you can't get 4th gear.

Best and hope to see you racers at Nurburgring

Hi Mark,

wow, that sounds serious... Group 5, 139cc crankcase reed...

Pro Porting Special...

We probably meet at the Ring, I'm building a 90 SS copy for that occasion.

It comes with 135cc and reed induction also. All porting is done by pro pussy - which is myself. Sorry for the sticker please show it to harry - sorry that i can't take it all to serious. :grins: :-D

one reason that I answer is, that i just imported the repro handelbars from saigon together with the rest of the ss parts. I converted a 1967 50 S into an ss.

The repro bars are o.k. - I think you can get 4th gear no matter with what you shift, don't you ?

anyway, when I hear you coming at the Ring, I see that i get myself out of the way.

nice to eat you. :-D

hi mark,

after a 2nd breeze through my message, I can see that there is some possible potencial of an "upcoming misunderstanding".

It s always difficult to communicate with someone, you don't know at all.

so, please don't get me wrong, I do take you and your racing, and mr. barlows work for serious.

After riding on the streets for about 20 years, this race on the 1st. of may will be my very first attempt on a race track ever.

So I can't wait 'til that happens and will be, as everybody else here, very pleased to see, and here your smallframe perform. :-D

regards

Jan ( Pussy cycles Hamburgo )

and if you need 50 special bars: take a look at german ebay - they sell for very little money.

Hi Mark,

try it at www.saigonscootercentre.com...the ss90 handlebar repros are well done and fit nearly as good as the originals... the owner of this shop named pat, lives in the uk too, or has some family there...

best regards...

Dear Jan

Sorry for the long delay in replying and sorry I didn't see this before. I ended up using my 135 disc valve engine in my 90 Racer at Nurburg but hopefully the readvalve engine will be in my SS in the next few months. I have also just bought Harry Barlow's old PK (Nelson PK) that came 2nd to Sticky in the 2002 Cannonball Run. This has the 170 T5 motor that Harry used in his Primavera at Nurburg to come 5th past the post.

Harry heard about Pro Pussi at the track and wanted to meet you and get a badge as someone told him it was like his (it's like his old badge that is on his race leathers) Here's a copy of his current badge and my take on it for you if you want to have a go at using it. Harry is fine.

Just so there's no other confusion feel free to mail me anytime at [email protected] and my site is www.smallframe.co.uk. Harry and I have just completed the article on the race for Scootering though there is some confusion on the actual placings as it had me down as a non-finisher when I crossed the line mm's behind Matthaias Henze on the Zundapp Bella. I did get fastest smallframe engined lap and some of you german's were running much more modified motors than my group 3 which runs on a 30mm PHBL. Will be at Marl in a few weeks so if you're there come say Hi, we'll be the one with the long PK with a T6 225 motor.

Best
